The Great Fiore Roof-Tile Debate: Fifty Shades of Almost
Updated: Oct 8
Inside Opinion | Repairs, expectations, and communication
Apparently, even a roof can become a conversation piece at Fiore.
The cabana roof discussion involved a frustrating reality: according to the manufacturer information shared during the project, the original custom “Fiore Blend” tile finish from 2017 is no longer available.
An exact match was therefore off the table. The practical question became which available product offered the best combination of appearance, consistency, and future replacement options.

The selected Capistrano Maple Creek blend was described by the project participants as the closest available match. That is a reasonable basis for moving a repair forward.
But there was also a communication problem: the tile was ordered without the sample review that would have helped everyone understand what to expect.
Both things can be true. The material choice can be reasonable, and the approval process can deserve improvement.
For future projects, a sample, a written explanation of the options, and a clear approval record could save considerable debate after delivery.
Residents do not need a promise that discontinued materials will magically reappear. They need to understand the choice before it arrives on a truck.
At Fiore, “close enough” goes down a little easier when someone explains close to what—and why.
